About Wine at Five

Wine at Five is a longstanding wine and spirits store in Rye, New York, with a curated selection of bottles focussed on the smaller producers in the world. In the word’s of its founder, Cai Palmer, “Wine at Five is a store stocked full of unknown and funky wines that can be counted on to be the perfect wine for the perfect moment. It’s a store that employs people who know what they’re talking about. A store where the people are as passionate about wine as we are.”

I’m Dave. I’ve been in the wine industry for the past 12 years, but I wasn’t initially planning on staying for so long. At the time, I was a grad student at NYU studying International Relations, with a penchant for politics and passion for geography. But I eventually realized that I’d be MUCH happier if I ditched the politics piece and stayed with the geography bit. And this is where wine comes in – I became captivated by the small corners of the world where wines are made, and by the people who make it.

Suffice it to say, I got into this business for the juice, but I’ve stayed because of the people – the winemakers, the distillers, the suppliers, and the customers – for all of you.

While change is the only constant, particularly in wines, one thing you can always expect is a highly curated selection of wines and spirits, with a hand-sell touch. I want you to leave the store excited and inspired every single time – even if you don’t always leave with a bottle of something in your bag.
