Parusso Liquidation

Parusso.jpg

I have mentioned this occurrence before but I will admit, it doesn’t happen that often and it doesn’t happen this quickly. One of our beloved Barolo producers is jumping ship. For many years Marco Parusso’s Barolos and indeed, his entire portfolio, have been imported by NY based wine importer Massanois Fine Wines. Until now. I just learnt that Parusso is leaving the house of Massanois for what he thinks is possibly greener pastures. Where he may end up I do not know, but in the meantime Massanois need to divest themselves of their inventory and that’s good news for us. The prices of his wines have been slashed:

Barolo 2015: $35 per bottle Net

Barolo Anniversary 2014: $45 per bottle Net

Langhe Nebbiolo 2017: $20 per bottle Net

Dolcetto D’Alba Piani Noce 2017: $18 per bottle Net

Dolcetto D’Alba Piani Noce 2018: $18 per bottle Net

These prices represent an almost 50% discount to where they were in December. That’s a piece of really great news in an ocean of sludge.

If you don’t need to read the rest of this ‘obit’ then call or email me now to reserve your wines at these prices. The inventory will not last long. By the end of this week, I would guess, the wines will be pretty much ‘Sold Out’.

Parusso The Iconoclast

And if you want to read my thoughts, then continue on.

Barolo 2015. RP 93. I still think that the 2015 vintage will become legendary. I have yet to drink a single 2015 Barolo that I have not fallen in love with. And if you want to simply have on-hand a great wine for today, of in 20 years time, buy this vintage. And buy this Barolo. For the price it cannot be beat. When released it was priced at $55 and I have seen it considerably higher. I tasted it last November and it was rich, with ripe plum and dark fruit tastes. But balanced. Parusso's wines are always balanced.

Barolo Annata 2014. RP 93. This is only the third incantation of this wine. 2002 and 2005 were the other two. The Annata series is made when Marco decides to ‘declassify’ his ‘cru’ wines. Instead, he blends each of his 3 crus into one wine. Being that the yields were extremely low in 2014 due to severe fruit selection, this wine has great depth and intensity. Along with an opal black color, a forward blackberry aroma and a palate defined by spices, grilled T-bones and brown butter. Awesome.

Langhe Nebbiolo 2017. RP 89. I tasted this just yesterday. What a nose on it. All licorice and cedar, mingled with baking spices and sweet dough. A lovely spread of velvety tannin to go along with blackberry and roasted fig. It’s going to be difficult to find a better value for money Nebbiolo than this, this year. Insane quality and value.

Dolcetto D’Alba 2017/2018. Quite simply, don’t even hesitate with this one. Simply buy it. Where else are you going to get an incredible Dolcetto for $18?

As I say, I do not expect these wines to still be available by the weekend. I have tried to reserve 10-12 cases of each of them, but that’s asking a lot from my sales rep. NYC restaurants will be buying this stuff by the palette and I fear our window is short.

If you want any let me know as soon as possible.

Orders taken subject to inventory availability and confirmation. Wines will be delivered to Wine at Five this coming Friday.
